Surcontrol digitalizes three Baleària vessels with DRAGSA, improving real-time monitoring and operations
Company
Finanzauto Marine, a leading company in technological and machinery solutions for the maritime sector, aimed to modernize the supervision and operational control of three Baleària vessels. The objective was to integrate a robust platform capable of monitoring critical equipment even under unstable maritime connectivity conditions.
Challenge
Deploy DRAGSA—Surcontrol’s comprehensive digitalization and monitoring platform—across three commercial vessels, ensuring continuous and reliable communication between onboard assets and shore facilities.
The main goal was to obtain real-time data, improve machinery supervision, enable predictive maintenance, and guarantee that critical information remained available despite internet connectivity fluctuations at sea.
Problem
- Unstable maritime connectivity: The vessels operated under intermittent network coverage, making it difficult to maintain a stable data flow to the platform.
- Lack of centralized analysis system: Each vessel’s information was managed independently, limiting global visibility of operational status and equipment wear.
- Inability to implement predictive maintenance: Without historical and real-time data, detecting failure patterns or anomalous behavior in engines, hydraulic systems, or auxiliary equipment was not possible.
- Absence of advanced alerting tools: Without automation, operators relied on manual inspections, increasing risk during critical navigation incidents.
Solution
How we do it?
A solution was implemented based on deploying an industrial Owasys IPC on each vessel as an intelligent node running DRAGSA and ensuring stable, continuous communication with the central platform.
- Owasys IPC as a secure maritime gateway: The device acts as a central control point, collecting data from onboard systems, processing it locally, and transmitting it to DRAGSA through an optimized channel designed for unstable connections.
- Comprehensive asset monitoring: DRAGSA provides real-time supervision of engines, generators, pumps, electrical systems, and any critical onboard equipment, offering a clear view of operational status and performance.
- Digital twin and advanced analytics: Each vessel is supported by a digital replica reflecting its operational state, enabling early issue detection, anomaly visualization, and intuitive system understanding.
- Predictive maintenance and intelligent alarms: The system analyzes trends, vibrations, temperatures, and other parameters to anticipate failures. Automated alerts notify technical teams of any critical deviation.
- Automated reporting and role-based control: Operations managers receive periodic performance and status reports. DRAGSA also manages role-based access and permissions to ensure full data security.
Results
- Continuous and monitored operation of all three vessels with reliable data, even in low-coverage areas
- Implementation of predictive maintenance, reducing breakdowns and optimizing technical interventions
- Improved operational safety through intelligent automated alarms
- Unified data from all three vessels within a single platform with global visibility and advanced analytics
- Faster incident response thanks to local processing within the Owasys IPC
