Monitoring and optimization of routes for clothing containers at Madre Coraje
Company
Madre Coraje is a non-profit organization dedicated to humanitarian aid and collecting donated clothing through containers distributed in various locations. They needed a reliable solution to monitor the fill level of each container and optimize collection routes.
Challenge
Implement an autonomous, low-power, and durable system that measures the actual fill level of each container, sends the data to a web service, and allows Madre Coraje to plan efficient routes using a geolocated panel connected to Google Maps.
Problem
- No real-time information: There was no way of knowing when a container was full.
- Inefficient routes: Collections were made manually, generating unnecessary travel.
- Devices without autonomy: A very low-power system that would last for years without maintenance was essential.
-
Lack of centralized monitoring: There was no single panel showing the location, status, and priority of each container.
Solution
How we do it?
We designed and installed a protected electronic device inside each container, capable of powering on every hour, measuring the clothing fill level, and sending the data to a web service.
- Intelligent communication: The device transmits only the necessary information to save energy and extend battery life for several years.
- Geolocated dashboard: We created a web platform where Madre Coraje can visualize the real-time status of all containers on a map.
- Route optimization: The system automatically generates the most efficient route using the Google API, facilitating the work of collection staff.
Results
- Real-time monitoring of the fill level of all containers
- Significant reduction of unnecessary trips and improved operational efficiency
- Multi-year autonomy thanks to the device’s low-power design
- Smart optimized routes to reduce time, fuel consumption, and workload
- Greater responsiveness and more sustainable management of the collection service
