Modernization of 80/40 TN crane with IkolCrane at Navantia

Retrofit e IkolCrane para grua 80-40

Company

Navantia, a leading Spanish public company in the naval and defense sector, with large industrial infrastructures that require high-capacity lifting systems, safety, and operational reliability.

Challenge

Modernize and enhance the value of the 80/40-ton crane by integrating an advanced remote control and monitoring system, improving safety, operability, and the operator's experience, leaving the crane completely renovated and ready for intensive use in the shipyard.

Problem

  • Obsolete control system: The crane had an old system with limited control, monitoring, and ergonomics.
  • Lack of real-time information: There was no clear display of the crane's operating status or critical parameters.
  • Need for greater safety and precision: Lifting operations required more advanced and reliable control.
  • Aging infrastructure: Both the electrical system and the overall appearance of the crane needed to be renovated.

Solution

How we do it?

Surcontrol carried out a comprehensive renovation of the crane, integrating its own IkolCrane solution, an advanced real-time control and monitoring system.

A control cell equipped with advanced joysticks and a tablet was installed, from which the operator can control the crane and view the status of all critical parameters remotely and safely.

In addition, new drives, PLCs, and control systems were replaced and integrated, ensuring a modern and reliable architecture. Finally, the crane was completely repainted, leaving it fully renovated, operational, and adapted to Navantia's current standards.

Results

  • Fully modernized and operational 80/40-ton crane.
  • Integration of the IkolCrane system for real-time control and monitoring.
  • Significant improvement in safety, precision, and ergonomics for the operator.
  • Complete renovation of the electrical, control, and power systems.
  • Increased reliability and service life of a critical asset at the shipyard.
