Environmental monitoring of the shipyard using SCADA and anemometers at Navantia
Company
Navantia is a leading public company in the naval and defense sector, specializing in the construction and maintenance of highly complex ships.
One of its shipyards needed a reliable system to measure and monitor wind and other critical environmental variables during production processes.
Challenge
Implement a centralized system that would allow wind to be measured at different strategic points in the shipyard and data to be viewed in real time, ensuring operational safety and correct decision-making during maneuvers and production work.
Problem
- Lack of overall visibility: There was no unified wind monitoring throughout the shipyard.
- Operational risks: Wind conditions could affect critical maneuvers on gantries and in elevated areas.
- Scattered or non-existent data: There were no centralized environmental metrics for analysis and consultation.
-
Need for real-time control: Immediate information was essential to act safely.
Solution
How we do it?
We installed three anemometers at key points in the shipyard: one on each gantry and another at the highest point of the production building.
- Integration with PLC: The sensors were connected to a PLC located in the maintenance building, which was responsible for collecting and processing all measurements.
- Centralized SCADA: We developed a SCADA system displayed on a panel PC, from which all the shipyard's environmental metrics are monitored in real time.
- Continuous monitoring: The solution allows historical data to be consulted, adverse conditions to be detected, and operational safety to be improved.
Results
- Real-time wind monitoring at critical points in the shipyard.
- Greater safety in maneuvers and production operations.
- Centralization of environmental data in a single SCADA system.
- Improved decision-making thanks to reliable and up-to-date information.
-
Robust and scalable system for future metric expansions.
